1964 Thunderbird
These are pre flood photos of my 1964 Thunderbird taken a few days after it was purchased. The color was Prairie Bronze color code "P". The engine was a 390 cubic inch V-8 rated at 300 horse power stock. The transmission was a Cruise-O-Matic (C-O-M) 2 speed with an overdrive, which pre-dated the Ford C-6 making repairs a nightmare.
When I took the car in to the dealer for transmission band adjustment and fluid change they said they never seen that transmission before and couldn't work on it. They had the balls to adjust my perfectly tuned carb and charge me for work I didn't want. They made the car stall at every stoplight, unless I kept a foot on the gas and brake. When I got home I fixed it, the carb settings were off and the ignition timing was out of spec from two days at the Ford dealer. Hmm I had just checked that the month before.
Larry's Thunderbird couldn't get me the right filter or gasket for the C-O-M so I took the pan and filter to a local transmission specialty part shop on Hwy 100 who matched them. The fluid change smoothed the shifts a bit, but the bad boy really could have used a rebuild.
